Hi there! Welcome to Engagement Lab. I'm Jessi, the lead learning designer here at the lab. I help educators, trainers, and organizations create learning experiences that are engaging, interactive, and backed by science. Engagement is absolutely essential to comprehension, retention, and skill development. However, keeping learners engaged in virtual environments can be challenging, especially when training involves hands-on or procedural skills or when learners lack motivation to engage with the content. Even I have let those annual training videos play in the background while working on something else—why? Because they weren’t interesting to me.

My approach to designing learning experiences is to imagine someone minimizing my training and ask myself: What would they need to see or hear to bring them back to the screen? Better yet, what could have made them expand to full screen from the start? At Engagement Lab, we answer these questions using research-backed neuroscientific engagement principles.
